Literacy activities at home should be fun. We want our kids to read and write for pleasure, to read and write because they want to learn or communicate something, to read and write because they they love it...because literacy is fun!
I have a hard time getting my kids to do anything "mom directed" during their free time. They would rather just play. So most of the literacy activities we do are disguised as play. I try to build literacy activities into our daily routines and squeeze them in whenever they fit.
We play word games in the car, snuggle up and read before bed, write silly notes to each other while waiting for our food at a restaurant. Anything to expose my children to literacy in a fun way, everyday.
