Print-Rich Gifts: Writing Box

It's already the middle of October.  What?!  Even though Halloween isn't quite upon us, the holiday season is just around the corner.  Periodically over the next few weeks, as I begin to make my list and check it twice, I'll share a few literacy-themed gift ideas.

Print-Rich Gift #1: Writing Box
Nicole from The Activity Mom recently posted about creating a writing box for her son.  She filled a shoebox with items like paper, notebooks and colored pencils and gave it to her son to encourage beginning writing.

A Writing Box makes a great gift, and there are a million ways to create one depending upon the interests of the recipient.  I would include some of the following:
For the box itself, you could decorate a shoebox, like in the original post.  It would be cute to personalize it with the child's name or initial, or decorate it to go along with a theme, like pirates, fairies, ocean animals...

Or here are some other container options:
  • A personalized lunchbox (above)
  • A container that doubles as a writing desk like this
  • A decorated lock box -This is particularly appropriate for an older sibling.  As the oldest of four, I loved the opportunity to lock up my special possessions, and keep them away from those grubby younger hands.  :)
  • A cute storage bin like this
  • A personalized Art Box
I love the Writing Box idea!  It's an easy, meaningful gift that's as much fun to put together as it is to receive.
